About DriveSafe · The story behind the company
Fourteen years on the trade side of the desk.
DriveSafe Warranty Ltd was founded by Syed Faisal Inam, who has been buying, preparing and selling used cars in the UK since 2011. This is the warranty he wished he'd been able to offer, all those years.

The story behind DriveSafe
There's a moment that happens at every used-car dealership, and after fourteen years on the trade side of the desk I've watched it unfold thousands of times.
A customer leans forward. They've found the car they want. The price is fair, the paperwork's almost done, and then quietly they ask the question that matters most to them: what happens if it goes wrong?
For most of the last fourteen years, that's been the hardest question I've had to answer honestly.
"I've sold a lot of third-party warranties over those years. Read every line of every product. And I built DriveSafe because I'd had enough of sitting opposite a customer with a broken gearbox, watching them realise the small print wasn't on their side."
I started selling cars in 2011 — one man, an Auto Trader account, and the patience to find good vehicles other dealers had passed over. The first year was a punishing education: I learned which auction houses were straight and which weren't, which warranty providers paid up when it mattered and which ones disappeared the moment a customer needed them.
By 2019 I'd registered Fusion Motors Ltd and taken a small forecourt on Baymanor Lane in Grays, Essex, where we still are today. We move around a hundred cars a year — Audis, BMWs, Land Rovers, Mercedes — to drivers across London and the South East. Every car gets a 75-point inspection, a year's MOT and a written warranty before it leaves us. Most of our business comes back through word of mouth, which is the only review system that ever really mattered.
So I know warranties. Not from a brochure — from the desk.
I know what it's like to sit opposite someone who's just been told their gearbox has gone, three weeks after the manufacturer's cover ran out, and to watch their face fall when the warranty document doesn't quite cover what they'd assumed. I know what it feels like to ring a claims line on a customer's behalf and be left on hold long enough to wonder if anyone's still there. I know how the commission structures work, who pays whom, and why the small print is the size it is.
And I know the warranty industry has been trading on customer confusion for too long.
The four things we do differently
DriveSafe Warranty Ltd is a separate company, registered in Peterborough, and built from a blank page to do four things the rest of the market won't.
Plain English
#1Every clause meant to be read in one sitting, by someone who isn't a lawyer.
No commission to dealers
#2The price you see is the same wherever you buy it. The wholesale rate is the same for every dealer in the country.
Garages paid directly
#3No paying upfront and waiting weeks for reimbursement. You pay your excess, if the garage's labour rate is higher than ours, you pay the difference too.
Honest about what we aren't
#4A discretionary warranty under UK consumer law — not regulated insurance. Not covered by FSCS, not under FOS jurisdiction.
Will it suit everyone? No, and we wouldn't claim it does. Some drivers will quite reasonably prefer the extra protection that regulated insurance brings, and there are good products on the market for them. But for the rest — for customers who want a warranty written in language they can read, at a price that isn't padded by dealer commission, with a claims process that pays the garage instead of making them wait — that's what we've built here.
Fourteen years selling cars taught me that customers don't actually want very much from a warranty. They want it to do what it said it would do, when they need it, without an argument. So that's what we measure ourselves on.
Fusion Motors carries on in Grays, much the same as before. DriveSafe is the next chapter — and after fourteen years of conversations across that desk, it's been a long time coming.
